Snapshots 9: During My Four Months of Freedom
So I will post the two photos that did survive. Both these photos were taken at the Lalancette home. They were the family who took me in my first Thanksgiving and Christmas away from home. I was twenty years old.
The first one is taken in the Lalancette’s living room, on Christmas Eve. This one is not very clear, but you can make out my pink slippers, even though I am wearing rather formal clothing. That was my Amishness, too.

I love these pictures. They remind me so much of some girls down here fresh out of their Amish culture.
nice 🙂
I dressed like that, too, back in 1970. My parents wouldn’t allow me to wear pants in public except maybe to a picnic. Forget jeans…till college. Probably why I still love them!
In that adorable closeup picture (you have such beautiful eyes and smile)…I was wondering if the part in your hair was a bit crooked on purpose? 🙂
I so enjoy pictures and I thank you for sharing yours.
You speak of dressing formally in the Christmas Eve picture. We always dressed formally on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I still do — so I see the picture as being typical. LOL Perception is such an interesting thing. Nan
My heart broke when I realized what you did with those photos. I treasure all of my photos so much! I can only imagine how much you regret it. Thank you for sharing that story and the photos that survived.
Lomy, Sorry I missed your presentation in Madison tonight. (I live in Chicago) The pics are great.
I enjoyed seeing you and David and your presentation in La Crosse, WI at the library. Very interesting. God bless you.
