The PBS documentary "The Amish: Shunned" that aired on American Experience in February has been nominated for an Emmy Award for "exceptional merit in documentary filmmaking." The American Experience film "JFK" has also been nominated for an Emmy.
I was very honored to take part in both "The Amish" and "The Amish: Shunned." I was especially happy to be part of the second film because by then I was well acquainted with Callie Wiser of Five O' Clock Films and I knew that she would portray my culture and people as they are, without embellishing or sensationalizing our stories. She was able to convey the nuances and the complexities of what it means to live or leave an Amish life. It was a real pleasure to work with her.
You can watch "profiles" of each of the people who were interviewed for the "The Amish: Shunned." If you follow the link, you will see the various links on the left hand side of the page. To watch the whole documentary in sequence, you need to buy the a copy of the film or wait until it airs again.
Please share this post freely all over the internet, giving Callie Wiser and Mark Samels, the Executive Producer of American Experience our support for their outstanding work.
I now have the handy-dandy buttons at the bottom of the post that allow you to share directly on Facebook and Twitter.
