Giveaway of “Bonnet Strings” with Jolina Petersheim
It is now less than a month to February 3, when Bonnet Strings: An Amish Woman’s Ties to Two Worlds will be launched. It feels like so long, and yet that time will pass quickly, I’m sure.
If you have not yet seen the preview for the PBS documentary “The Amish: Shunned” premiering on American Experience on February 4, then it’s not too late. You can click on this link to see it.
Happy New Year to everyone!

Saloma
Very excited, Saloma! I need to catch up with you here on your blog 🙂 This being retired is exhausting!
Greetings, Saloma. I hope 2014 is proving to be a good year for you.
I saw the American Experience clip yesterday for the first time. Oh, my heart broke. Anna. The terrible, horrible sorrow from just a 2 minute clip. How I wish I could help the Amish people who leave. I wonder if there are safe places for them to go to. Is there a place where they are welcomed and comforted? Where they are told they will NOT go to Hell just for leaving the Amish?
Listening to the Amish leaders speak was sad as well. The voices were strong and staunch…and hard. The claims of rebellion being the root cause of all the trouble was heart breaking. It was without compassion. I ask you, how can the spirit within any human being forsake and abandon that which rules the mind and heart and woos, at times brutally, the call to freedom? I believe if one denied themselves this their spirit would die. They would become cruel or hollow. Salt which is without taste.
Then there are those such as yourself. Those who made it, with struggle, yes, but nonetheless made it in this world. And made it into the next.
