Spring has Sprung!

It’s spring fever.  That is what the name of it is.  And when you’ve got it, you want – oh, you don’t quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!  ~ Mark Twain

All the snow has melted, even the big white elephant in our yard, where the town plow was piling the snow all winter. It is predicted that tomorrow the temperature will be in the 70s. David and I have been working on getting our house project moving along. We are just so tired of the upheaval of the remodeling. But at least the weather is cooperating, and we are not that far from seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

Remember when I posted pictures of our attic when it was being insulated? I’ll post one here as a reminder:

Below is what it looks like today. We painted it in January. Now there is only the trim to go up on the windows and the doors to install for the openings to the storage behind the knee walls. That comes after we finish replacing the window trim on the first and second floors. but the attic sure is a lot warmer, even without actually heating that space! And hopefully it will be cooler in the summer.

The attic stairway was never painted, so the boards were very dry and chipped. It looked like this:

Yesterday I painted the treads, so now it looks like this:

What projects are you undertaking this spring? Will you be celebrating spring in a usual fashion, or will this one be different for you?

  1. Hi Saloma –

Isn’t it wonderful when a project nears completion? I can understand your relief.

I’m planning to paint my bathroom. Hopefully, I can manage the project without hiring help. Sometimes I think, “I can do this,” but my body objects. :)

    Blessings,
    Susan

  2. Hi, We have stairs to paint too. Our house never had a door going into the attached garage that sits lower than the rest of the house. We took out 2 side by side closets and made stairs going down to the garage. Now the stairs need painting as does the front porch and some of the lawn furniture. I like the gray on your stairs. I was thinking of painting the risers of mine white with the rest black and then seeing about a carpet runner to minimize the noise. Your attic is nice!

  3. I love, love, LOVE your attic!!

When Bill and I moved into this house, it was only about 2 years old and needed nothing :-) However, that night the wind blew siding and roof shingles off and it’s been one thing after another ever since – the biggest being the water line to the heating system upstairs freezing and splitting, spewing hot water through out the 2nd floor; down through the floor through the ceiling below and down the walls … and through the first floor floor and into the basement ceiling, walls and finally, mostly draining out through the french drains in the basement. I’m sure you can picture the sheetrock ceilings hanging and the light fixtures with water pouring out of them; filing cabinets containing water and ruined furniture. We are finished with reconstruction but not the final touches. We ran out of steam. The insurance company was wonderful, though, so we try not to whine too much!

I REALLY want to finish deocrating with all of my things that are still in storage out in the garage and in boxes in our spare bedroom.

I think I’m tired already .. or maybe it’s just that Spring Fever! (my garden is calling me .. only 2 small piles of snow left!)

  4. Your attic looks great!

With the chaos of the book release plus other deadlines, I may not get much spring cleaning done. But I hope to at least do something about our overflowing garage. :-)

  5. I’m a new follower but look forward to reading your older posts. We are putting on a new roof and finishing a bathroom remodel this Spring, not to mention starting our garden :) Busy days ahead!

  6. The last kiddo has moved out. It seems I havent redecorated a room in my farmhouse without a child in mind, in 29 years. I’m mid redo, and find myself considering all my grandchildren in the process. Old dogs….
I just finished your book. I enjoyed it very much and look forward to more from you.

  7. Thanks, all for your comments. Sorry it has taken me this long to respond.

Sharon Marie, I love your name! I hope you’ve made progress, or perhaps completed, your project. Thanks for your compliments.

Rosslyn, I can see why the cleaning would take a back seat… so exciting about your book… I bet you’re counting the days!

Anne, welcome and thanks for visiting my blog. Busy days ahead… wow, no kidding. We put a new roof on our house last fall and it’s a major deal. Add a bathroom remodel onto that, and I can’t imagine. We decided not to take on a garden this year. Good luck with all that!

Elizabeth, how nice to think of grandchildren in your project. Sounds like you are an “empty nester.” I don’t know about you, but I LOVE that about my life. I enjoyed mothering, too, but David and I didn’t get much of a chance to be a couple before our first child, so we are getting another chance at it. We are enjoying that very much. We have no pets, so we have no one to care for except ourselves and one another. Nice!
